Lenkgetriebe mit Servolenkung für Granada mk1

  • Guten Tag

  • Good morning Alexey,

steering track rods vary between the different vehicle models. The steering unit itself will be interchangeable between Sierra and Scorpio, but due to different track widh, the pushrods make the difference.

Sierra was the successor of Taunus/Cortina and therefore ist dimensionwise closer related.

Scorpio and Granada are also close in size.

According to data retrived from the web, Granada has a track with of 1515mm, while Scorpio (92-94) only has 1477mm. With a little luck those 38mm may be adjustable.

Otherweise watch out for other brand cars with ZF-Steering of that time. Even though the steering housing will be different, internal components might be interchangeable.

    Stay safe!

  • As far as I know, the steering rack from the scorpio is longer than on the Granada, therefore, at the time of the suspension, the wheel alignment changes

Therefore, some craftsmen put from scorpio 2, it is closer in size to granada, but it is difficult to install it in granada

  • Well, welding axle components would be the shortcut to hell in our perfectly regulated environment. Latest with the bianual inspection, the car would be officially withdrawn from use.

Heating the axle by means of the welding torch, will soften the material, they say.

I am not familiar with different steering rack dimensions, but basically everything of same total size could be installed creatively.

But back to the final question of the initial post. What's wrong with the original steering? Existing freeplay can be fixed by tightening the track-rod (inner) ball-end housings.

Hoses might be remanufactured by a fearless hydraulic service guy.

  • The original rack has died and cannot be restored (as the steering repair specialists told me)

To drive, I installed a steering rack from a scorpio, but it is longer than native. Although the steering rods from the siera - the final length has become correct, but the hinges are in the wrong places.

I think that when the suspension is working, the toe-in of the wheels changes.

Therefore, I think that you need to find a native steering rack or choose the right size from modern cars.

As for the hoses - I understand, thanks for the advice, I think there will be no problems with this.

Let me recapitulate for proper understanding.

As the steering unit itself happens to be wider, subsequently the track rods need being shorter.

The Scorpio-steering-rack ist installed, total width adjusted by useage of Sierra track rods. But due to shorter track rods, the inner ball joint does no longer reflect the required angle of motion to follow the entire lift of suspension.

If so, it is not a question of different legth track rods, but the steering rack itself needs being shorter.

yes, that's what I meant. and the steering rack from scorpio 2 is just the same size as from granada
